That talk with the old timer about door locks really stuck with me
I was working on a Mowrey job in downtown Cleveland last week and this retired mechanic who was just hanging around started chatting with me. He said 'you kids worry too much about the controller codes and not enough about how the door actually feels when it closes.' I mean, I always thought I was pretty thorough but now I'm second guessing if I spend too much time on the digital side and not enough on the mechanical feel. Anyone else ever have an old school guy make you rethink your whole approach?

Buddy of mine @vera_robinson36 had the same thing happen with a plumber who told him to stop relying on the camera so much and listen to the pipes. Changed his whole workflow after that one chat.

Wait, is this really that deep though? I get that old school guys have their tricks and they're usually right about the basics, but acting like using a camera is the problem sounds a bit much. Pipes don't have feelings, you know? If the camera shows a clog, there's a clog. My buddy tried that "listen to the pipes" thing once and ended up missing a crack that cost him twice as much to fix later. I'm not saying the old timer is wrong, but let's not pretend a camera is just some fancy toy either.
