That time a door lock relay fried mid-service at a hospital
Was working on a 12-stop Otis at Mercy Hospital in Denver last Tuesday and the door lock relay just sparked out of nowhere. Had to manually bypass it with a spare I keep in my bag just to get the car back to the lobby for the night. Anyone else carry spares for random relays or just me?

Glad you had that spare handy, that could've been a real disaster.

Did you ever figure out what caused it to fail in the first place? I've seen that happen with older wiring where a loose connection just slowly eats away at the insulation over time. It's scary how something small like that can turn into a total smoke show without any warning. Having a spare part around saved you a ton of headache, but now you've got to wonder if there's more damage hiding somewhere else.

Loose connection slowly eats away at the insulation over time" is such a perfect way to put it, and honestly, it kind of mirrors how a lot of bigger problems sneak up on you. Like in relationships or at work, it's rarely one huge blowup, it's that one small thing you ignore that just chips away until everything falls apart. Now you're right, he's got to be wondering what else is hiding in the wiring, because once you fix one weak spot, you can't help but feel like you're just waiting for the next one to pop up. It's the same with an old car or even a house, you fix the leaking pipe and suddenly you notice the floorboards are soft, you know?
