TIL a simple way to cut down on waste rope from old cable jobs

I was cleaning up after a traction rope swap and got tired of tossing all the leftover short pieces. Started cutting them into 2-foot lengths and coiling them up. Now I keep a bucket of these scraps in the service truck. They're perfect for temporary tie-offs when you need to secure a door or a panel open safely. Also works as a decent improvised sling for lifting small parts if your real one is across the shop. Saves buying those disposable nylon straps and keeps a bit of steel out of the bin.

Those wire cores can be REALLY handy too if you strip a section out. Perfect for bundling loose cables or making a quick repair wrap in a pinch. Smart move giving that old gear one more job.

Tied my loose lamp cord with a stripped USB core last month. Fixed my wobbly lamp base too, just wrapped it tight around the joint. Stuff's stronger than it looks.

Last month I stripped the core from a broken HDMI cable. It worked great for tying up the mess behind my TV stand. I mean, it's basically free cable management from stuff you'd throw out anyway. Idk, maybe it's just me but I keep a jar of those stripped cores now for quick fixes.

Karens12, that's next-level recycling right there. Keeping a jar of stripped cores is peak 'one man's trash' energy. Tbh, I love how it turns a useless cable into a solution for another problem. It's like a weird tech karma circle. Now I'm eyeing my old broken cords differently, but my spouse would kill me if I add more junk to our drawers. Still, can't hate on a free fix that actually works.
