My barber in Memphis said something about his old job that stuck with me.

He told me he used to be a teacher and quit because he felt like he was just 'checking boxes' for the system. It made me realize how many people are just doing work that feels empty, not meaningful. Anyone else had a simple conversation that made you question your whole career path?

My uncle worked at the same factory for thirty years and called it the "golden handcuffs"... good money but he said his soul felt thin. I get what your barber means about checking boxes. It's like you're just a part in a machine you don't even believe in anymore. That feeling of empty work is so heavy to carry every day. Makes you wonder what we're all trading our time for.

That factory pension bought his lake house though.

Yeah, and it's not just jobs. I see it everywhere now, like how every gas station sells the same junk food. It's all just boxes to check. @aaron305 has a point about the pension, but that trade-off seems brutal. You clock in for decades just to feel hollow.
