PSA: That squeaky floorboard took me 3 tries and a full Saturday to fix

Woke up at 6am last Saturday thinking I'd just screw down a few floorboards in the hall and be done by 9. Three hours later I'd stripped two screw heads, snapped a drill bit, and discovered the subfloor is particle board from 1988. Finally gave up and used construction adhesive and weights. Held fine so far but I should have just called it a night after the first hour. Anyone else spend way too long on what seemed like a 30 minute job?

Particle board screws with the self-drilling tips saved my sanity.

Wait, did you use regular screws or the ones with the little teeth on the underside? I made that mistake once and spent an entire afternoon trying to get them to bite into nothing.
