TIL that a huge chunk of our 'gut feeling' is actually our brain spotting patterns we don't consciously notice.
I was reading a study from the University of New South Wales that said our brain can process a complex scene in about 13 milliseconds. That's way faster than we can think about it. It made me realize all those times I had a bad feeling about a person or a deal, it wasn't magic. My brain was just putting together tiny clues, like their tone or a shift in their story, before I could even name them. It changed how I see my own instincts. Now I try to slow down and ask myself what the small signs were. Has anyone else had a moment where they later figured out what their gut was really picking up on?

Angela's comment about a sixth sense is exactly how I used to see it, like some weird magic. But reading about the actual speed of brain processing made it click for me. My gut feeling about my last apartment was a great example. I couldn't say why I was uneasy about the landlord, but I signed the lease anyway. Later, all the problems started. Looking back, my brain had caught his nervous smile and how his stories about the building didn't quite add up. It wasn't a ghost, it was just my own mind working faster than my mouth.

A buddy of mine once got a weird feeling about a used car he was buying. The price was good and everything checked out on paper, but he said something just felt off. He bought it anyway, and within a month the transmission went out. Later he told me he realized his gut was picking up on how the seller kept looking at the engine instead of answering his questions. It was like his brain noticed the avoidance but his conscious mind just heard the words. It's crazy how your mind can put together all those little pieces without you even knowing.
