Bought a cheap steamer for $60 that barely lasted a week.
The thing started leaking during a facial and shorted out. Now I'm out the cash and had to cancel two appointments. Anyone have a steamer that actually holds up?

Ugh, that "shorting out" thing is the worst. I had the same problem with a cheap one that basically just spit hot water everywhere. I finally caved and got the one my friend uses at her salon. It was more money, but that thing has been running almost daily for two years now with zero issues. It just feels solid, like it won't break if you look at it wrong.

Notice this happens with everything now, not just steamers. Companies build stuff to fail right after the warranty ends. My mom's old vacuum lasted 20 years, but the new one I bought died in 18 months. It feels like a tax on being broke, where you keep buying cheap things that break and end up spending more in the long run.

Totally get what you mean about it being a tax on being broke. Felt that with my last coffee maker, it just stopped heating one morning like it had a timer set to die. My grandma's old toaster is still going strong, it's heavier than my laptop. Makes you wonder if they even want us to own things for more than a year anymore. It's so frustrating to feel forced into buying the same cheap thing over and over.
