I was reading a report on deepfake scams and the number they quoted stopped me cold

Honestly, I found a study from the FTC that said losses from AI voice cloning scams hit over $11 million in just the first quarter of this year. Ngl, I knew it was a problem but seeing that specific figure from an official source made it feel way more real and urgent. How do we even start to build trust or verify identities when the tech to fake them is this cheap and available?

Yeah, that number is just wild to look at. I mean, I got a call last month that sounded exactly like my cousin asking for money for a tow truck, and I almost fell for it before I caught myself. It's getting so you can't even trust a voice anymore, which is a scary place to be. Makes me wonder if we'll all need like, code words or something dumb just to talk to family.

Honestly that voice cloning stuff is terrifying. Did your cousin know his voice got copied or was it a total surprise? Tbh I'm starting to think code words aren't even that dumb anymore, like what else can we do? Feels like we're all just waiting for our turn to get scammed.

Ngl the code words thing is starting to sound smart, not dumb. My aunt got a call "from me" last week saying I was in jail, voice was spot on. Honestly it's messed up.
