Just realized I lost $500 on a DNA ancestry test that sold my data

Honestly, I bought one of those kits last year thinking it would be cool to see my heritage, but I found out the company can share my genetic info with research partners and law enforcement without my clear say-so. Tbh, it feels like I paid them to take something way more personal than money. Has anyone else felt tricked by the fine print on these things?

Paid them to take something more personal" is exactly how it feels, right?

Wait, they actually paid for that? @carter.julia, you hit the nail on the head. I saw a company charge extra just to use your own photos on a birthday card. Another one wanted a fee to handwrite the address instead of using a label. It feels like a sneaky way to make everything cost more. They take the basic, personal touch and turn it into a line item on a bill.
