Watched a documentary on deepfakes and it flipped my whole stance

I used to think they were just a weird internet joke, but seeing a clip of a fake news report from a small town in Ohio convinced me the risk is real. Has anyone else had a moment where a piece of tech suddenly felt way more dangerous?

Remember when you could trust a video of a public figure saying something crazy? Now you have to double check if it's even real. It's not just fake news reports, it's audio clips of bosses firing people or voice notes from "family" asking for money. The tech is moving faster than our ability to spot the lies, and that's a scary place to be.

Ugh, saw a deepfake of a local mayor, @the_drew, and it looked totally real. This stuff is getting way too good.

Man that whole thing was a mess, @the_drew. Someone made a fake news clip saying a train in Ohio was on fire again, and people freaked out. It was just a stupid edit using old footage to scare everyone. Stuff like that is so dangerous because it spreads panic for no reason. Really makes you mad how easy it is to trick people online these days.
