Wired a batch of smart locks today and now I'm torn on the ethics.

They give great control, but the data tracking feels wrong. How do you guys weigh convenience against privacy?

So what happens when you can't turn that tracking off... do you just live with being watched or ditch the lock? That's the real choice they're selling.

Convenience tax. That tracking is the real price tag. These companies aren't just selling you a lock, they're building a map of when you come and go. That data gets sold or used in ways you never see. Check if you can turn the tracking off completely, because the default is always set to "collect everything.

That data sale is the real deal breaker.

Ugh, exactly. That handy info for bad people if there's ever a data leak is what really gets me.
