Dog park drama over a $5 bag of treats last Tuesday

I was at the dog park in Portland and this lady went off on me for giving her dog a treat without asking. I get the allergy thing but she acted like I poisoned him with a premium salmon jerky I bought at the pet store. Has anyone else run into owners who treat treat-giving like a crime scene?

Used to think people were just being dramatic about the treat thing till this golden retriever at my local park had a full on seizure after someone shared their trail mix. Totally changed my mind, now I just ask first even if it feels awkward.

Call out @the_diana on that trail mix story because that's exactly the kind of thing that makes me side with the protective owners. Would love to know though did she post the salmon jerky ingredients online or was she just assuming it was safe? Like big difference between store bought dog treats and some gas station trail mix with raisins and chocolate chips.

@the_diana makes a solid point. Read somewhere that dogs can react to xylitol in random human snacks people pull out of their pockets.
