I used to think tipping for takeout was optional, but a chat with a delivery driver in Seattle last week made me rethink it.

Wait, a delivery driver changed your mind on tipping for takeout? That's wild because they don't even deliver it.

Yeah, right? I felt so dumb. The driver was picking up an order and just looked so beat. He said his pay is the same whether he drives across town or just hands me a bag. Kinda wrecked my whole "no delivery, no tip" rule.

Honestly that's crazy to me they get paid the same for a pickup order. @the_jana I always figured they got a cut of the delivery fee or something. Tbh it makes zero sense to pay someone the same for walking a bag ten feet as driving miles. No wonder the guy looked beat, that system is broken. I guess I'm rethinking my own takeout tipping now too.
