Remember that old guy who ran the bait shop on the Everett waterfront? He told me once, 'The river used to be so clear you could see the salmon run from the dock.'

That was probably old man Jenkins. He ran the shop until the late 90s, not the one on the waterfront. The clear water story checks out though, my dad says the same thing.

The clarity wasn't just about looks, it was a sign the whole system was working. Clear water meant healthy plants and insects for the fish to eat. We're not just missing a view, we're missing the engine that made the run happen.

Honestly seems like people get a bit dramatic about water clarity. Clear water looks nice but fish have been living in murky spots forever. Tbh a lot of these "perfect" old systems probably had their own problems we just forget about. Not saying it's not a good thing, just maybe not the huge deal everyone makes it out to be.
