Spent three hours trying to get a permit for a shed in my backyard

The Everett city website said it was a simple online form, but the zoning map was wrong for my block near 19th and Rucker. I had to call four different offices and wait on hold for over an hour total just to get the right paperwork. Anyone else hit a wall with city permits that should have been easy?

Oh man, SAME. I walked into that permit office thinking I was SO prepared and ended up feeling like I forgot how to read English. The lady at the counter handed me a form that asked for the "structural load bearing capacity" of my shed and I just stood there blinking at her for a solid minute. I finally asked if I could just put the dirt back where I found it and call it a day. Three hours is actually kind of IMPRESSIVE for Everett honestly, I think I spent that long just trying to figure out which door to use. The zoning map thing is a nightmare and I say that as someone who once got lost in a parking lot for twenty minutes.

Ha! Right? I still don't know if my shed even has "load bearing capacity" or if that's just its feelings.

That wrong zoning map is a huge problem. I found out our neighborhood's map on the site was from 2012. The actual rules changed in 2017, so everything I tried to do was automatically wrong. They never updated the public files.
