Background music while working seemed helpful, but I was wrong

I used to crank up tunes whenever I sat down to work. I thought it kept me energized and focused. Then I kept missing details in my spreadsheets because I was nodding along. I decided to test a day with no sound at all. That day, I caught errors I usually miss and finished early. Now I realize that for my brain, quiet lets me think clearer. This simple change has made a big difference in my daily routine.

Yeah, I had the same exact experience with podcasts. Switched to silence and my focus is just way sharper now.

What do you think about people who use background noise to focus, @reed.elliot? I tried rain sounds once but kept imagining I was in a storm, lol. Now I just stick with quiet, like you said.

Do you think some brains just need sound to block out their own noise? I tried white noise once and it made my focus worse. Quiet lets me think clearly. But I have friends who say silence drives them crazy. What makes one person need noise while another needs quiet? Is it how our brains handle boredom or stress?

Our brains sure love to wander, even with rain sounds. I've switched to quiet as well, but do you ever miss having some noise?
