My dog's weird habit at the mailbox made me see my whole street differently

Last Tuesday, I was walking my dog, and he stopped to sniff the same exact spot on Mrs. Johnson's fence post, like he does every single day. I was annoyed and tried to pull him away, but then I looked up and really saw her garden for the first time (she has these tiny blue flowers all along the edge). I realized I've been so focused on getting the walk 'done' that I've missed the small, nice things on my own block for years. Has your pet ever forced you to slow down and notice something you always walked right by?

Totally get that. My cat does this thing where she stares at a blank wall in the hall for minutes. Used to think she was just being weird, but one day I finally stopped and saw the tiny shadow patterns from the window there. It's like they force you into a different speed. Makes you wonder what else we're all just rushing past every day.

Remember my old neighbor who would just stand in his yard looking up. Drove me nuts trying to figure out what he was watching. Turns out he was tracking a specific hawk's flight path every afternoon. I was always too busy coming home from work to even look at the sky. Kind of embarrassing, really.

Wait, so you're telling me your cat is basically a tiny, furry art critic staring at shadow paintings? That's a whole new level of pretentious pet behavior. Mine just tries to eat plastic bags.
