My neighbor's kid asked why I always walk the same way to the park

I was taking my usual route past the old oak tree when little Leo from two doors down pointed and said, 'That way is longer. We go through the alley and see the cat.' I've lived here for 7 years and never once considered the alley. It made me realize how many tiny, better paths I miss because I'm on autopilot. What's a small route or habit you changed that made a big difference in your day?

Honestly I stick to my usual routes on purpose lol. Found a shortcut to the truck stop once that saved me ten minutes, but then I missed my regular gas station where the cashier knows my coffee order. Sometimes autopilot just means you built a routine that works.

Remember when I started biking to the coffee shop instead of driving.

My buddy used to drive the highway to work every single day. He started taking the river road after his car broke down and he had to borrow his wife's bike. Now he gets to work just as fast, but he says seeing the water in the morning completely changes his mood for the better. He never would have tried it if he hadn't been forced to.
