Serious question, I thought my morning coffee was just a caffeine hit until I started making it in a French press and actually paying attention to the process.
Now I see the whole five-minute ritual as a quiet reset before the day starts, but my neighbor says that's just adding pointless steps to a basic task, so what's your take: mindful routine or overcomplicating things?

Read something about how small rituals can lower stress, so maybe your neighbor's the one missing out.

Your neighbor's missing the point that slowing down is the whole point of the ritual.

Ever notice how the simple stuff gets better when you slow down? Like @gracec16 said, it's about the slowing down. I used to just slam a bag of tea in a mug, but now I heat the pot and watch the leaves swirl. That two minutes is the only quiet I get before my kids start yelling for cereal. Your neighbor can have his fast coffee, but my weird little tea time makes the whole morning feel less like a race.
