Shoutout to the barista who called me out on ordering the same drink every day
I popped into my usual coffee shop in Portland last Tuesday and opened my mouth to order my go-to oat milk latte. The new barista just smiled and asked if I ever tried switching to a cortado with a splash of vanilla. I laughed it off at first, but she said I was probably missing out because I was stuck in a routine. I figured why not, so I tried her suggestion and honestly the flavor hit different. That little conversation made me rethink how often I just autopilot through my choices without even tasting them. Now I make a point to ask someone else for their take before I decide on lunch or even a new shampoo. Has anyone else had a small chat that totally shifted your daily habits?

Wait, you actually switched your order just because a new barista said something? That's wild to me, I've been getting the same black coffee from the same spot for like three years and nobody has ever dared to challenge me on it. Honestly, that kind of casual push sounds both terrifying and kind of amazing, I might have to try it with my sandwich order tomorrow.

Nah, a decade of the same boring order is a badge of honor though.

I just read this article about how baristas are basically lowkey therapists now, remember that viral TikTok where a barista broke down crying because someone actually tried something new for once? Lol. I think people get so stuck in their routines, like ordering the same thing is a personality trait or something. But honestly, if a new barista told me my usual was boring, I'd probably switch it up just to see what happens, worst case scenario you hate it and go back.
