Spent $15 on a cheap rain cover for my backpack and it saved my laptop
Got caught in a downpour walking home from the library. My backpack was soaked through in minutes. I remembered I'd grabbed a basic rain cover from a discount bin months ago. Pulled it out, put it on, and my laptop and notes stayed completely dry. Anyone else have a cheap buy that turned out to be a total lifesaver?

Remember to test that rain cover before you really need it. I bought one that looked fine, but the seams leaked under light rain. A quick test in the shower at home showed it was useless. It's worth checking your gear so you don't get a nasty surprise when you're already soaked.
