Why does nobody talk about the sound of a quiet house?

I turned off every single thing that makes noise in my apartment for one hour. No fridge hum, no AC, no phone buzz. The silence felt so loud it was like a pressure in my ears. I realized my brain is always waiting for the next ping or beep. Has anyone else tried a full noise cut and felt that weird, heavy quiet?

My power company actually suggests doing it during peak hours. The fridge stays cold for a long time.

Hold up, that's a terrible idea. Fridges work hard to keep a steady temp, and turning them off lets warm air rush in every time you open the door. Your milk and meat go into the danger zone real quick. My cousin tried this and ended up tossing a whole fridge of spoiled food, which costs way more than the tiny bit of saved power.

@the_thea brings up a fair point about food safety, but did you notice the sound change when the fridge kicked back on?
