Our neighborhood association banning overnight parking to deter van dwellers feels like a low blow.
Targeting people who have nowhere else to go under the guise of cleanliness is just plain mean.

I mean, is it really that serious though? Neighborhoods have rules for all kinds of stuff, and sometimes they seem harsh but there's usually a reason. Maybe it's not just about being mean, but about safety or trash or something. Idk, maybe it's just me but I feel like this stuff gets blown out of proportion sometimes.

So you bring up safety or trash as the reason, but have you considered who gets to decide what's a safety issue? I've lived places where the HOA fined a family for a broken fence during a medical crisis, calling it a hazard. How does that make anyone safer? It often feels like selective enforcement that targets people who can't fight back. What's the line between a real rule and just bothering your neighbors? I'm not buying that every strict rule has a good reason behind it.

Last year my city spent over two million dollars on homeless shelters that are still half empty. If the real problem is people sleeping in vans, why aren't we pushing them toward those beds instead of just moving them to the next block?

Seriously? Calling it a low blow is putting it nicely. It's kicking people when they're already down, and for what? Clean streets?
