We switched from a joint checking account to separate accounts with a shared bill fund
My partner and I used to have just one checking account for everything, and it was a mess. We'd argue about small buys and never knew whose money was for what. About six months ago, we set up a new system. We each have our own checking account for personal spending, and we put $2,500 a month into a shared account for rent, groceries, and our kid's stuff. The change was huge. No more side-eye over a coffee or a video game. We both feel in control of our own cash while still covering the house. It cut our money fights down to almost zero. Has anyone else tried splitting accounts like this? What's your setup for keeping the peace?

Tried your system and it really helped, though @jessica130, we avoid secrets by just talking about big buys.

How is a shared bill fund a fast track to secret spending? It's the opposite, because you both see what goes into the joint account for bills. The personal accounts just stop the small daily arguments.
