Had a close call with a spooked draft horse in Lancaster last week, my apron got caught on a stall latch.

My cousin's neighbor lost part of a finger to a snapped lead rope last fall. It was just a regular Tuesday morning, nothing special about it. The horse wasn't even being bad, just saw a plastic bag blow by. Makes you double check every buckle and latch now.

Honestly, that's how most bad stuff happens, just a normal day with one small thing going wrong.

Maybe, but sometimes it's not one small thing. It's a bunch of small things piling up that nobody noticed. Like a frayed rope that got missed a few times, plus a horse that's been extra jumpy all week, plus someone being in a hurry. The plastic bag is just the last straw. The bad day was already being built.

Frayed rope is a perfect example... I actually read a study once that said most horse-related accidents happen from stuff that was worn out or loose but nobody caught it in time. @mia700 is right about checking every buckle, it only takes one missed crack in the leather or a weak spot in the nylon to ruin your whole day. That plastic bag thing is wild too, horses are so unpredictable with the dumbest stuff. My friend's mare spooked at a mailbox flag once and ripped the bridle clean out of her hand. It's the combination of small failures that gets you, not some big dramatic event.
