Had a florist tell me my bouquet colors were clashing, not complementing.

Man, that's such a sharp way to put it. Makes you wonder how many other things in life we're forcing to work together when they just shouldn't.

Try forcing things and you'll see what @murphy.aaron means, like a bad color combo you just have to let go.
