I just realized I've been designing for a runway that doesn't exist

For two years, my whole portfolio was these huge, dramatic gowns that took forever to make. I was so focused on making 'art' that I never thought about who would wear it. Then, a friend in Portland asked me to make a simple linen jumpsuit for her actual wedding. Seeing her wear it, move in it, and love it for a real day totally flipped my thinking. Now I'm torn between designing for that fantasy editorial moment versus clothes for real life. Has anyone else made this switch from couture to practical design?

Honestly, that fantasy editorial moment is still real life for someone. It's just a very, very small group of someones.

But that small group still proves it's possible.

Proves it's possible" for like, 0.0001% of people doesn't mean much.
