Drove past a job site in Omaha last week and saw something odd with their post spacing
I was heading to a supply house near 72nd Street and noticed a crew setting posts for a chain link fence. They had the posts about 12 feet apart, which seems way too wide for standard 6-foot fabric. Has anyone else seen builders try to save money by stretching post spacing like that?

That spacing would make the fence sag like crazy in a year. Wonder if they're using heavier gauge fabric than normal, maybe some industrial stuff? Even then, twelve feet is pushing it hard. Could be they're setting the line posts first and plan to add more in between later, but that seems backwards. You'd think they'd want all the posts in before stringing wire.

Twelve feet between posts is insane.

Used to believe tighter spacing was always better until I saw a highway project using twelve foot gaps. They had these massive posts set in concrete with heavy gauge fabric. @wyatt_mitchell26 is right that normal fence would sag, but this was built like a tank. Changed my view on what's possible with the right materials and footing. Still wouldn't try it for a backyard job.
