Hit a snag with my backyard fence repair over the weekend

I was replacing a section of my wooden fence and the old posts were completely rotted at the base. Had to dig out way more concrete than I expected, any tips for making that easier next time?

My buddy had the same rotten post issue last year. He started digging out the concrete with a shovel and almost gave up from the strain. Someone suggested he try a digging bar to break it up first. He wedged it under the concrete and used his weight to crack it into chunks. Once it was in pieces, the shovel work went quick and he finished the job that same afternoon. Using that bar turned a nightmare into a manageable fix.

A digging bar is a game changer for that kind of work. My neighbor tried to pull a stump with just his truck and a chain, snapped the chain twice. Borrowed a bar to loosen the roots first and it popped right out. Sometimes the old school tools are the only thing that gets the job done right.

I mean, digging out that old concrete is honestly the worst part of any fence fix. It always takes way longer than you think, but breaking it up first makes a huge difference. Maybe it's just me, but I always end up sore for days after jobs like that.
