I bought a cheap post hole digger attachment for my skid steer and it bent on the third hole, costing me over $300 in repairs and half a day.

What's a solid brand you guys trust for rocky ground?

My uncle's farm has soil like concrete and he's had a Bradco auger on his machine for years without a hiccup. The steel on those things is just way thicker, especially around the gearbox. I learned the hard way too... a cheap one will twist up if it even sniffs a rock. You really need something rated for "extreme duty" or it's just not worth the hassle. Spending more up front saves you from those repair bills and lost time.

That's a rough way to learn about cheap attachments.

Yeah, used to think it didn't matter until one broke on me.

Ever see a cheap auger snap? It's not a clean break. The whole thing just warps and twists like a pretzel. Then you're stuck with a bent driveshaft and a hole half dug. That's when you realize the thick steel isn't just for show. It's the only thing between you and a really expensive afternoon.
