Seeing a lot more ornate fence designs in my area

I've been getting more requests for fancy fences with scrollwork and such. On my last install, the client's neighbor came over and started criticizing the design right in front of everyone.

Hold up, that article sounds like total nonsense. Fancy fences just look stuck up and out of place. They make the whole street feel unfriendly, like people are hiding. A simple, clean fence does the job without looking showy. Plus, those ornate ones block the view and can start arguments with neighbors over the style. Curb appeal is about the whole home, not some flashy barrier.

Honestly, we put in a simple black iron fence with a little scrollwork on the gate last year. It wasn't crazy fancy, but it made our plain front yard look so much more put together. It frames the garden beds nicely and the mailman even said it looked sharp. It just feels more welcoming now, not showy at all.
