My grandma said to burp my kimchi jar every day for a week, not twice.
Did it her way last month and no explosions, just perfect fizz. Anyone have a different burping schedule that works for them?

Honestly, that sounds like a recipe for a mess. My jar blew its lid on day three doing it that way.

Oh man, that's rough. A blow-off usually means things were way too active, maybe from too much sugar or too warm a spot. I've found burping the jar once or twice a day for the first week lets that gas out safely. Leaving the lid just a tiny bit loose can help too, so it doesn't build up enough pressure to pop.

Yikes, my buddy had that happen with his sauerkraut. He came back to a kitchen that smelled like a locker room and kraut on the ceiling.
