Only my from-scratch kraut showed up to our ferment party

Everyone else brought fancy bottled stuff from the store. I get that it's easy, but the whole joy is in making it yourself. Are we just giving up on learning how to do this?

Ugh, that's the worst feeling. You put in all that time letting it sit, getting the salt right, and then it's just a wall of fancy store kombucha and pickles. Half the fun is the wait, the weird smells, the whole process. Feels like we're losing the actual skill for just... buying a jar.

You hit the nail on the head. My kitchen always has those weird smells, but that's part of the charm you don't get from a store.

Honestly I used to think all that waiting was a waste of time. But now I get it, the whole weird process is the actual point.
