Update: My portfolio got a boost from a forum thread, but a buddy got burned on another.

I see two camps: one that swears by crowd-sourced finance tips and another that says to avoid them like the plague, so where do you all land?

Check the source first. Some people just want to hype their own bags. Others actually break down the numbers.
