Clients pushing for bamboo floors has me split on sustainable practices

Lately, more jobs involve bamboo flooring due to its green image. Some installers praise bamboo for growing fast and needing less water than hardwoods. Others point out the high energy used in shipping and processing it overseas. I see both sides but worry about the real eco impact. Should we focus on local materials even if they cost more? Or is bamboo still a good choice despite the miles it travels? Curious how you all handle these calls.

Everyone worries about shipping, but bamboo grows so fast it still beats waiting years for local wood. The travel might even out since it needs less water and no nasty chemicals.

It's a real headache balancing client wants with true eco impact. @josephadams mentioned the fast growth, which helps, but I've seen reports on how much fuel gets burned shipping bamboo from Asia. Local maple might cost more upfront, but supporting nearby forests can cut down on transport pollution. Sometimes the 'green' label misses the full picture, like energy used in factory processing. We gotta weigh all factors, not just what sounds good on paper.

Ever feel too dumb to figure out if @josephadams is right?

Green marketing makes everything feel like a math test.
