My brother-in-law (a plumber) said something about floor prep that stuck with me.

Honestly that "stuck with me" part is so real. My uncle, who's a carpenter, once went on a rant about checking for level before you even think about cabinets. Tbh I was just asking about shelves but he spent twenty minutes talking about shims and how a house settles. Ngl I still look at my walls differently now.

My shelves are a testament to ignoring that advice.

My friend hired a guy to put up a floating shelf and he just... eyeballed it. It's a full inch off level. She says it's a "feature" now, but it drives her nuts. Reminds me of what @stone.lisa said about her uncle and checking for level, that stuff really does stick with you.

Ever had a tile guy explain grout lines so well you can't unsee bad work?
