Talked to an old-timer at the supply house about using a heat gun on vinyl plank

He said 'son, you're just baking the adhesive out of it' and showed me his 20-year-old install that still looked perfect. Anyone have a better method for getting stubborn planks to click in cold weather?

Baking the adhesive out" is right! Try a rubber mallet instead.

Rubber mallet trick sounds smart. My buddy tried that on an old tile floor. Ended up cracking three tiles before he gave up.

Hold up, your buddy probably swung that mallet way too hard. A gentle tap is the whole point, not whacking it like you're driving a fence post. Old tile needs a soft touch and maybe a block of wood between the mallet and the tile to spread out the force. Sounds like he just used the wrong tool for the job, or went at it with pure muscle. The trick works if you actually follow the trick part.
