My daisy revival with a sugar pinch has me puzzled

I added a pinch of sugar to the vase water for wilting daisies. They perked up noticeably overnight. I'm not sure why this works, but it seems effective.

Oh wow, I actually saw something about this online! I read that the sugar acts like a little bit of food for the flowers, since they can't make their own anymore after being cut. But it can also make bacteria grow faster in the water, which is bad. Maybe it's a tricky balance? I mean, if it worked for your daisies that's pretty cool.

It's a neat trick, right? I've done the same thing with roses from my garden. The sugar gives them a little energy boost. You do have to change the water more often to stop it getting slimy. A clean vase makes a big difference too. It's one of those simple fixes that actually works.

Always figured sugar would just make the water gross faster. Seeing your daisies bounce back has me rethinking that whole idea. Might have to try it next time my flowers look sad.

My grandma used to swear by the sugar trick for carnations, but she always said just a quarter teaspoon. A whole pinch seems like it could be a lot. I get what @kelly638 is saying about the bacteria, that's the part that worries me. It's like giving the flowers a candy bar but also inviting all the germs to a pool party in the vase. I'm surprised it worked so fast overnight without the water getting weird. Maybe daisies are just tougher than other flowers.
