My truck's AC died on a 95-degree delivery day and a cooler trick saved the flowers

I had a big wedding order to drop off across town last Tuesday, and my van's air conditioning gave out halfway there. It was 95 degrees outside, and I had about $800 worth of hydrangeas and roses in the back starting to wilt. I pulled into a gas station, bought two bags of ice and a cheap styrofoam cooler. I put the ice in the cooler, left the lid open, and placed it right in front of the air vents on the floor. The cold air from the melting ice blew right over the flower boxes for the last 20 minutes of the drive. Everything arrived crisp and cool. Has anyone else had to get creative with last-minute climate control in a broken-down vehicle?

Did you have to keep refilling the ice, or did those two bags last the whole trip?

Wish I could say they lasted. We ended up buying ice three more times at gas stations. My cooler is apparently an ice eating machine.

Remember my buddy's cooler? It ate ice so fast we joked it had a secret leak. We were stopping every few hours just to keep it cold.
