I gave up on being a comic artist ten years ago, but I still see people get one thing wrong.

Everyone says you need to draw every single day to make it, but I followed that rule for two years straight and just burned out. I had a whole sketchbook full of 200 pages from that time, and it felt like a chore, not a dream. Now I just draw when I feel like it, and my stuff is actually better. Does anyone else think the 'draw daily' advice can do more harm than good?

Honestly, that advice about drawing every single day used to be my bible too. I pushed myself to finish a page a day, and my sketchbook just filled up with rushed, stiff figures I hated. Letting go of that rule was scary, but now when I pick up a pencil it's because I actually have an idea. The lines feel more alive, and I'm way more likely to finish a piece. Sometimes a few days off lets your brain work stuff out.

Yeah, the pressure to produce just kills the fun.

Janah83 is right, a break can let your ideas grow.
