Dealing with my uncle's constant business 'tips' is draining
He calls often to suggest old ideas. I spend too much time explaining why they won't work. It's really frustrating.

What's wild is how often this isn't about the advice itself. The emotional labor of constantly having to politely reject the same old stuff is the real drain. It ends up feeling less like help and more like they just need to be heard.

Totally get that emotional drain thing. It's like you're stuck doing polite customer service for bad ideas that keep coming back. What matthewdixon said hits it, you end up just being an audience member for their monologue. I mean after the third time hearing the same "helpful" tip, you're not even having a real talk. They walk away feeling good, and you're just tired from all the nodding. Makes you not even want to bring stuff up anymore.

That listening part is exactly it. You stop being a nephew and start feeling like a free therapist who has to nod along to the same script. They get the social hit of feeling helpful, while you do all the work of pretending their outdated idea has merit. What makes it so tiring is realizing you're not in a real discussion, you're just providing an audience.
