Warning: Tablet reviews skip how gadgets hurt the earth.
I was checking out new tablet reviews and they only focus on the speed and screen. But they never say a word about the energy use or where the old ones end up. Shouldn't we demand reviews that cover the green side of gadgets?

Seriously! It drives me nuts when tech sites act like battery life is the only thing that matters and never talk about what's in the thing or how repairable it is. I was trying to find info on how long a model is supported with updates, and it was like pulling teeth. Feels like we're only getting half the picture, the shiny half. It's basic stuff that should be in every review.

Are you sure most buyers care about update support over battery life?

What gets me is how bad updates can wreck a good battery. My old phone got slower and the charge just vanished faster after a certain update, like they planned it. So @johnb49, asking about which matters more misses how they're tied together. A long support promise means nothing if the updates they do send are poorly made and kill your battery in a year. Reviews should test that.

Totally agree, and my own tech habit is a big part of the problem (I'm typing this on a tablet I probably didn't need). Reviews that ignore the environmental cost just feed that cycle. They make it easy to forget about the mining for materials or the e-waste. It feels like we're only getting the sales pitch, not the real story of what these things cost the planet. Holding out for a truly "green" review feels like a lost cause sometimes.
