Shoutout to the humble mudstone for telling a better story

Everyone chases after shiny minerals, but I argue mudstone layers reveal MORE about ancient environments. My latest sample showed clear seasonal bands that granite just can't match.

Yeah, it's like how the plain notebook on the desk usually has the real story, not the fancy leather journal. Everyone misses the quiet stuff staring them right in the face.

Ever notice how the tiny details in mudstone say the most? I found some with little fossil tracks last year that told a whole story.

Read about a case where someone found tiny burrows in mudstone that showed how ancient worms survived a drought. It's wild how much you can learn from what looks like nothing at first. Those little marks hold more history than a whole textbook sometimes.

I used to chase after the shiny stuff too, always skipping over mudstone. Then my teacher showed me a sample with perfect fossil raindrop marks, and idk, it just clicked. Maybe it's just me but that moment changed it all. Now I see those layers as pages in a book, not just boring rock. The detail in something so plain is really wild.
