Community event poster has me confused about visual flow

I want the date and time to stand out but not overpower the main image. Saw a similar design online that balanced it well. Any tips or inspo sources for layout basics?

My own flyers look like a pipe explosion diagram. Try putting the date in a bold but simple box near the bottom. Works like a clean weld, holds the look together without stealing focus.

Visual flow problems are a classic poster struggle. @taylorgonzalez's box method is a good fix, like he said. Checking other designs you like will help nail the balance.

@taylorgonzalez, that box trick for the date sounds handy. How do you pick the box size so it balances with the rest? Do you use color borders or keep it plain?
