Rant: My local scene's obsession with vintage gear holds back new music
Modern tools can make indie sound fresh, not worse.

The fixation on old gear might actually be about nostalgia, not sound quality. Lol, my buddy's band spent ages chasing a '70s tone but their songs still sounded dated. Modern plugins can mimic that vibe anyway, plus you get way more options to tweak things. It's like people are scared to make something that doesn't sound like it came from a basement tape.

Gear won't fix bad songs. My friend's studio has a vintage Neve board, but his mixes still sound flat. Plugins like the UA 1176 can nail that compression without the hassle. Why pay thousands for a tape machine when you can get 90% there with a plugin? It's like using a typewriter to write emails. The magic is in the hands, not the tools. But hey, if it makes you feel like a rockstar, go for it.

But wait, you really think plugins get you all the way there? Ngl, sometimes that last 10% is the whole vibe.
