I mean, it's like the memes now are so fast at catching what's happening, you know? They joke about stuff that literally just went viral hours ago, so it feels fresh. Idk, maybe it's just me but that instant connection makes the humor hit harder because we're all in on the joke at the same time. Old memes were fun, but they didn't have that same rush of getting a reference right when it's trending. Plus, the way we use audio and clips now adds another layer that plain image macros didn't have. It just feels more alive and connected to how we actually talk online today.

Early 2010s meme formats had more staying power. They were simpler and didn't rely so much on trending audio. I miss that kind of humor.

Have you ever noticed how meme humor changes every few years? @angela_knight3, I get why you say new memes are funnier, they hit closer to home now. My advice after seeing this debate a lot is to not just look at the format but the timing. Memes today work because they spread fast and joke about things we all see daily. The old ones were fun but they didn't have to keep up with how quick we live online. So yeah, current memes feel funnier because they're made for right now.
