The $600 certification course that put me back in a cubicle
I dropped $600 on a 6 week project management cert last spring thinking it would open doors for a fresh start after 22 years in retail. Instead it just made me overqualified for the part time gigs I was eyeing and underqualified for the corporate roles that wanted 5 years of direct experience. The only interview I landed was for a desk job at a call center in Akron, which felt like the same treadmill with a new carpet. Has anyone else paid for a shiny credential that ended up steering you backwards?
Overqualified for the part time gigs and underqualified for the corporate roles" is the whole story right there. That cert did nothing but put you in a weird middle zone where nobody wants you. Six weeks and $600 to basically learn how to say "let's circle back" in a meeting. The call center in Akron part killed me, same treadmill new carpet is too real. LinkedIn is full of people selling these courses like they're golden tickets when really they just take your money and hand you a PDF.
