Skipping music practice as a kid caught up with me

When I was young, I never practiced the piano regularly. My teacher said I'd regret it, but I didn't listen. Now as an adult, I struggle to play simple songs. I've started practicing again and see the value of consistency. What skills do you wish you'd stuck with?

Funny enough, skipping piano practice is one of my few childhood wins. That freed up hours for actually fun stuff, like riding bikes. Not every skill you start as a kid needs to be finished. Still can't read sheet music, and life moved on just fine. Sometimes quitting is the right call.

Ugh, the piano thing hits home. I basically treated practice time as my own personal rebellion and now my fingers just refuse to cooperate. @the_seth has a point about not every hobby needing to stick, but my regret is real when I see someone just casually play something cool. My skill level is forever stuck at the first half of 'Fur Elise,' and it's a special kind of embarrassment. I guess the joke's on me for thinking I could just pick it back up anytime.

My dad still bugs me about quitting trumpet lessons in fourth grade.
