Rant: My stash of unused music loops shows creative roads I didn't take

I mess around with making beats on my computer. At one point, I thought about sticking to drum patterns but ended up trying synth waves. Now, I save every loop and sound I don't use in a special folder. Going through it, I notice how my tracks could have sounded totally different. Like last week, I had a chill vibe that I swapped for something more upbeat. The original loop had a calm feel I kind of miss now. This makes me think about what if I had kept that style. My hack is to never delete your discarded ideas. They let you view the alternate paths in your hobby.

Your "alternate paths" folder is just hoarding with extra steps lol

Totally get that feeling! My garage is full of half finished wood projects that show all the things I almost built. Sometimes pulling out an old piece gives me a whole new idea though.

Ever try sorting through that pile? I found a weird shaped scrap last month that turned into my favorite shelf. Sometimes the mess is just raw material.

Found this weird flat stone in my yard last year. Was gonna toss it but left it by the back door. Now it's the only thing that keeps that door from slamming shut in the wind. Guess @the_ray is onto something with finding uses for old scraps. My pile of "maybe later" stuff is mostly random rocks and bent tools.
