Using my old phone for meditation apps feels right, but is it really green?

Some say reusing tech for wellness cuts waste, others worry about the energy it uses. What's your view on this balance?

Phew, Robin450 really nails that relief of using what you already have.

That worry about energy use misses the point. That phone's big environmental cost already happened when it was made. You owning it is a sunk cost. The real question is whether using it for meditation stops you from doing something more wasteful. If it keeps you from buying a new dedicated gadget or running a bigger screen TV for background sound, you're actually coming out ahead. The greenest tech is the stuff already in your drawer.

Exactly! This is such a helpful way to look at it. @robin450 really gets to the heart of the issue, which is about making the best use of what we already own. That idea takes a huge weight off, honestly. It stops the guilt over tiny bits of power and turns it into a smarter choice to not buy something new. Framing my old phone as the greenest option actually makes me feel better about using it.

But honestly, how big of a deal is this in the grand scheme? Sure, reusing a phone is smart, but the little power it uses for an app is nothing compared to other daily waste, like always having the TV on for noise. We might be stressing over saving a penny while ignoring the dollars flying out the window elsewhere. It feels like we're overcomplicating a simple choice.
